The Wilderness Years was the period between Doctor Who's cancellation in 1989 and its resurrection in 2005. During that period, fans of the series were cast out in the wildnerness, doomed to admire a show which was no longer on air but had also not achieved cult status. We had to make do with a selection of repeats in the 1990s - admittedly including classics such as Genesis of the Daleks - and saving up pocket money to buy the Virgin New Adventures and Virgin Missing Adventures (eventually replaced by the Eighth Doctor Books and the Past Doctor Books).
