Troughton arguably had the hardest role ever, in that his performance would decide whether the regeneration concept -- and the resulting change of lead actor -- would be a success. In my opinion, Troughton is the best actor to have played the Doctor, because he is likeable but also consistent. There are times when [[Tom Baker]] is better, but there are also many times when he is far worse.

Played by Patrick Troughton throughout, the Second Doctor holds a special place in my Whovian heart due to a number of firsts:

Troughton arguably had the hardest role ever, in that his performance would decide whether the regeneration concept, and the resulting change of lead actor, would be a success. In my opinion, Troughton is the best actor to have played the Doctor, because he is likeable but also consistent. There are times when Tom Baker is better, but there are also many times when he is far worse.
